Right, this post is solely to clear up any misunderstanding about Nightfall.

What happened to Melissa in chapter 7?
She died. She was threading the line between her alternate world and reality, remember?

“It’s like living her life over while in a coma,” Su Hui explained. “Only with a different outcome in the end.”

As seen from above. So since her life was already ebbing away, her death in her alternate world prompted her to give up her life in reality. Anyway, in reality, Melissa did join them, instead of rejecting Shichun as shown in her alternate world.

Yes, it does happen to people in comas. The alternate world, I mean.

Why the guardian angel?
As hunters, they constantly put their life on the line. So obviously you'd want a little lucky charm for yourself, to make sure you don't die. And a guardian angel is pretty obvious. It also serves as a little club symbol :D
